In Port Wentworth, Ga. Preston Blackwelder was asked by staff at the Ed Young Senior Citizens Center to observe a moment of silence rather than a prayer before dinner.
You see, Blackwelder had to stop praying before meals at Port Wentworth's Ed Young Senior Citizens Center near Savannah because of a federal guideline.
But Senior Citizens Inc. officials said Friday the meals they are contracted by the city to provide to Ed Young visitors are mostly covered with federal money, which ushers in the burden of separating church and state. That well known article of the Constitution, oh wait, what, that is not in the Constitution?
This mess is being hashed out by the Port Wentworth city attorney.
Senior Citizens Inc. said their company provides meals at a cost of about $6 a plate. Seniors taking the meals pay 55 cents and federal money foots the rest of the bill, therein comes the rub.
The moment of silence was introduced to protect that funding.
"It's interpreted that we're telling people that they can't pray, but we aren't saying that," he said. "We're asking them to pray to themselves. Have that moment of silence." Oh, OK, thanks for the clarification. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech..."
I'm sorry, didn't mean to get all Constitutional on you.
The local Mayor says "It was one of the hardest things I ever did as mayor is to look those people in the eyes and ask them to be patient with me and honor their God in a moment of silence until I can have a resolution to this," Jones said. "For me to look at their eyes and tell them they can't thank God for their food, it's unheard of - I can't take it."
Jones said he flirted with the idea of ending a contract the city has with Senior Citizens Inc.
"Like one lady said, 'You can stop me from speaking, but you can't stop me from praying what's in my heart,"' he said. "But the best answer right now is that we're trying to get the best information possible and legal council is looking at what would happen if we continued to pray."
Way to go Federal Government. Harass the old folks and don't let them pray! Man, I am glad we have these Federal watchdogs to keep those racist, religious fanatics in order. We can all sleep safely now.
That's my opinion.
It looks like we have a winner! Immigration, say the polls, is something Americans can agree upon. With 61% of the American public in favor of the AZ law, 27% against, 12% undecided, there is finally a cause Republicans can sink their teeth into.
Illegal Immigration has proven to be political poison for the Obama administration. Finally it may seem we have found the Kryptonite for Barry the Bolshevik.
When Obama said that he will "look into Immigration Reform this year" he basically said, later for you Hispanic voters. It is clear, a majority of Americans favor the rule of law. They have no problems with immigration, they just don't want Illegal immigration.
This is not racism, despite cries from the Liberal media that it is. Americans don't care what country you come from, what we do care about is that when you come to ours, we want you to come legally.
To come to the country illegally is un-American. Americans don't likes cheats. It goes against our sense of fair play. It has nothing to do with skin color. Come one, come all, just come legally, follow the rule of law, learn our language, learn our culture, and all the best to you.
This is a nation of immigrants, from all over the world! Immigrants revitalize the nation, they remind those of us who have been here a while why we should not take what we have here for granted.
Why is it then, in a country where over 3 in 5 Americans are in favor of the Arizona law that it would seem just the opposite is true? Well, that is because of the media. Face it, there are 7 (ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, FOX) TV sources for news and only one is Conservative. Of the 20 largest newspapers in America only 1, the Wall Street Journal is Conservative.
The Progressives (a.k.a. Liberals, Socialists) learned a long time ago the importance of propaganda. When you pretend to be just reporting the news, but your reporting is based on an ideology, that is propaganda and not news. If you keep telling a lie over and over again, eventually people will believe it.
What gets me is at least FOX claims to be fair and balanced and does have Liberals on to present the other side (albeit wrong) whereas with the Propaganda Ministry, excuse me, Liberal media no such claim is made. However, there is a great deal of posturing about neutrality in the press, but they can barely conceal their laughter when they say so.
It is the same with schools. The Progressives know it is important to shape the hearts and minds of the little ankle biters. To raise little "green" children, teach them "social justice", and "economic justice". The NEA is not exactly a bastion of Conservatism.
How can you call a guy a winner of a Marathon if he sneaks in at the 20th mile and then races home ahead of everyone else? (That analogy was made many times while Bush 42 was in office) You can't, and Americans feel the same way about people sneaking into this country and enjoying the benefits without playing by the rules. What makes it even worse is these same people are critical of the country that they have not even legally come to!
The Liberals always look to Europe as their model. The Social Welfare state, taxes (actually we have surpassed them on corporate taxes!) VAT, you name it. Apparently the countries that spawned monarchy and serfdom, Communism and Fascism know better than we do.
Like in Northern Ireland where one can readily identify Catholics by their license plate or drivers license. No profiling there. Or in Flanders (the Dutch speaking north of Belgium) where housing preference is given to local residents instead of the French speaking Walloons from the south. That's sounds more enlightened, more fair than the American system, right? No profiling, right?
One thing that Progressives want from this is another power grab. They want a national ID card. Complete with thumb print and a DNA scan. Even Conservative talk show icon Bill O'Reilly is in favor of such a proposal.
No, how about we build a fence before you put a bar code on my forehead. Better yet, how about we bring our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq and place them and all their equipment at the border? How about we give clear rules of engagement for any would be terrorists attempting to sneak in to the country? You can keep your national tracking card. Why don't you have us all register our guns while you're at it! Oh wait, that pesky Constitution again and the 2nd amendment.
No, let Liberals keep their hateful rhetoric and national registration programs. Let the Liberals push their agenda of legalizing the illegal’s and let’s see what happens at the polls.
That's my opinion.
